A Big Bang ERP Welcome
I joined Big Bang Erp as a consultant in August 2017. I believed that my experience and certifications in Salesforce would greatly benefit Big Bang ERP, while simultaneously growing with the company. During the interview, and through my research of the company in different blogs, I felt certain that Big Bang ERP matched my philosophy of work. I was still in the early stages of my recruitment process when I was informed that I would have a trip to Montreal.
The trip was planned for the first week of September. The reason behind this trip may surprise quite a few, as it certainly surprised me; we were going for a retreat. Yes, you read that right, a retreat in Montreal! Additionally, the entire Mauritian office was heading to Montreal to join the Canadian team for the retreat.
We took our flight from Mauritius to Paris and then over to Montreal. This was the longest flight I ever took, and while it was exciting, it was very tiring. As I came out of the airport I was greeted with a hug from the CEO. The first lesson I learned: Canadians like hugs! The first day itself, we went to have a look at the office and had the chance to finally meet some of the colleagues that we have been communicating with digitally over the past months. On the way, I could not help but be amazed at how large the roads were and how almost everyone was driving big cars.
The colleagues were all great and they were all very enthusiastic when meeting us. It was heartwarming to see such welcoming people greet you with their largest smile; this is when I really felt the Big Bang ERP sense of family. We had our first lunch with part of the team and got to know some of the guys there before heading to the hotel for some well-deserved rest.
The next morning, we reached the retreat after a two-hour long drive. In Mauritius, this would be equivalent to going around the entire island! This brings me to my second lesson: Everything is extra-large in Canada. Whether it is the distance between two places, the roads, the cars or even the quantity of food that you get, everything is very big!
The retreat’s hotel was just wonderful. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to my whole life. While Canada does live up to their reputation for being a cold place, I was expecting a lot colder. The hotel was next to a lake and we had a nice view of the forest of Sacacomie. More surprising than the beauty of the view was the content of the meeting. Big Bang ERP shares all their sales figures! Everything about the financials and health of the company was transparent. I am not just an employee at BBE, but a partner, and I am expected to contribute with ideas and visions I have for the success of the company!
Willard Marriott, founder of Marriott International said: “Take good care of your employees, and they’ll take good care of your customers, and the customers will come back.” This is a motto that every company strives to achieve and claims to be practicing. Unfortunately, very few are living up to this claim when they are under pressure to make more and more profit. Lucky for me, Big Bang ERP got it right at so many different levels. After a lengthy discussion with the CEO, I understood what differentiates the company from all the rest; we are not expected to only sell or deliver products, but to create real relationships with our colleagues and customers. I am not only an employee but a partner working alongside others to bring this whole company to the top. Finally, I am not just an ID or a profile, I am a unique individual within a team with my own characteristics working to achieve something great!
